- Championship title battle between Galatasaray Istanbul and Beşiktaş Istanbul
- Denizlispor player Mesut Bakkal from the 1986–87 season revealed in his biography in March 2020 that he and his Denizlispor team had been doped on the penultimate match day against favourites and championship contender Beşiktaş Istanbul.[1] They had been promised Teşvik primler (motivation bonuses) by the other championship contender, Galatasaray Istanbul, if Beşiktaş lost point(s).[2] The match ended in a 1-1 draw, meaning that championship contender Beşiktaş lost a point in the title battle, with the doped football team having a decisive influence on the championship battle. At the end of the 1986–87 season, Galatasaray won the Süper Lig championship by a single point ahead of Beşiktaş after a 14-year absence from the championship.[1]
- After the book was published, Beşiktaş Istanbul officially requested the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) to retroactively award Beşiktaş a 3–0 victory in the match between Beşiktaş and Denizlispor and to award them the 1987 Turkish championship,[2][3] based on the information provided by Bakkal. Bakkal defended the ‘motivation bonus’, which was not prohibited at the time,[4] as it was not until 1998 that the TFF banned the acceptance of motivation bonuses by others.[2][3][4] In June 2020, the TFF rejected Beşiktaş's request on the grounds of the statute of limitations.[5]
- According to an analysis by a Turkish lawyer in July 2020, there is no statute of limitations in this case and Beşiktaş should take further legal action against the TFF decision.[6]
