1958 in film

The year 1958 in film involved some significant events. Le Beau Serge is credited as the first feature film of the Nouvelle Vague;[1] one of the most famous productions of the genre, also released this year, was Ascenseur pour l'échafaud, notable for its improvised soundtrack by Miles Davis. Releases in the United States included the hit musicals South Pacific and Gigi, the latter winning nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. In India, M. G. Ramachandran made his debut as a director with Nadodi Mannan.
