- The University of Chicago founded its Department of Philosophy in 1894, one of the earliest dedicated units of its kind in the United States. John Dewey accepted the position of first chair and held it until 1904.[1]
- Wilhelm Dilthey published his essay “Ideas for a Descriptive and Analytic Psychology.”[2]
