The Žulová Hilly Land (Czech: Žulovská pahorkatina) is a hill range geomorphological mesoregion in the Czech Republic and Poland. It is located in the Sudeten Foreland in the northeastern part of the Sudetes.[1] The highest point of the region is Boží hora (527 m).

Geography

The Žulová Hilly Land is a mesoregion of the Sudeten Foreland within the Bohemian Massif. It lies amid the following subranges of the Sudetes: the Vidnava Lowland to the northwest, the Opawskie Mountains to the east, and the Golden Mountains to the south. The landscape forms a gently undulating lowland-to-hilly belt. It is drained by the Vidnavka (a tributary of the Eastern Neisse).[2]

The Žulová Hilly Land has an area of 107 km2 (41 sq mi) and an average elevation of 337 m (1,106 ft).[3]

The largest settlement in the Žulová Hilly Land is Žulová.

Geomorphology and geology

The region's relief reflects its position at the transition between lowlands and the marginal parts of the Sudeten mountain systems; nearby bedrock geology and Quaternary surface processes are represented in Czech Geological Survey mapping and documentation for the Žulová area.[4]

Nature protection

Wetland habitats are characteristic in parts of the lowland belt; protected-site documentation and management materials for nature conservation in the Jeseník area commonly reference the Vidnava Lowland / Žulová area within their landscape context.[5]
