Świerki Dolne (German: Nieder Königswalde) is a hamlet in the village of Świerki, in Gmina Nowa Ruda, Kłodzko County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland.[1][2] In the official Polish geographical register, it is classified as a przysiółek wsi (hamlet of a village), with Świerki listed as its parent locality.[3][4]
Geography
Świerki Dolne lies in the Włodzica valley at the foot of the Włodzickie Hills, within the broader area of the village of Świerki.[5] The hamlet serves as a local access point to Włodzicka Góra, the highest summit of the Włodzickie Hills, which is reached by marked hiking routes from the Świerki Dolne railway stop.[6][7]
History
Świerki Dolne is historically connected with the village of Świerki, whose German name was Königswalde.[8] The lower settlement was historically known in German as Nieder Königswalde.[9] The surrounding area formed part of the historic Kłodzko region and, after 1945, became part of Poland together with the rest of Lower Silesia.[10]
Transport
Świerki Dolne has a railway stop on the line linking the Nowa Ruda area with Kłodzko and Wałbrzych. In historical railway usage, the stop was referred to as Nieder Königswalde.[11] The surrounding railway infrastructure, including tunnels and viaducts in the wider area of the gmina and county, is considered part of the region's technical heritage.[12]
Tourism
The hamlet is associated with walking routes leading to Włodzicka Góra and with the private Muzeum Przy Tunelu, opened in the vicinity of the railway stop in 2021.[13][14]
